Fifty members of Malawi’s gay and lesbian community have received training in plumbing and electrical installation.
The one-day training was organised by Nyasa Rainbow Alliance (NRA) to help participants improve their chances of finding work, starting businesses or becoming self-employed.
It was supported by Outright International through the LGBTIQ Economic Justice Project.
Participants were introduced to basic plumbing and electrical installation skills, which NRA says could provide a foundation for further training and income-generating opportunities.
The organisation says it remains committed to building economically empowered and self-reliant lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) communities in Malawi.
The training comes as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people in Malawi continue to face social and economic challenges, with organisations working to promote their access to livelihoods, skills and equal opportunities.
