A multidisciplinary team from Rand Water, the CSIR and government has been sent to Kagiso to assess reservoirs, storage and pressure problems.
Gauteng Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Jacob Mamabolo has deployed a multidisciplinary technical team to Kagiso as water supply disruptions continue across parts of Mogale City.
The team brings together specialists from Rand Water, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the Department of Water and Sanitation.
According to Gauteng CoGTA, the specialists will assess the local water network, reservoir performance, storage capacity and pressure management. Their work will also examine options for restoring Mogale City’s 10-million-litre storage facility.
Department spokesperson Theo Nkonki told SABC News that water tankers were being deployed to areas experiencing the most serious shortages while the technical assessment continued.
The intervention follows recurring supply problems in Kagiso and surrounding parts of Mogale City on Gauteng’s West Rand. The technical team is expected to identify pressure and storage constraints affecting the system and recommend immediate recovery work.
Residents have been asked to limit non-essential water use while the network recovers and technical teams work in affected areas.
No completion date for the assessment or restoration of the storage facility had been announced by Monday afternoon.
