The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has condemned the killing of the village head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, Ahmed Yusuf, allegedly by suspected bandits.
Mr Yusuf, who was a brother to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi, was reportedly killed in his palace during an attack on the community.
The governor described the killing as a demonstration of the “boldness and high level of insolence” of the bandits, particularly because the traditional ruler was attacked in his palace.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Mr Bago tasked security agencies with ensuring that those responsible for the killing were arrested and prosecuted.

The governor commiserated with Mr Abdullahi, the deceased’s immediate family, the people of Galla and the entire Borgu Emirate over the death of the traditional ruler.
He said Mr Yusuf lived a good life and died while defending and protecting his subjects.

Mr Bago also assured the bereaved family, Galla community and the Borgu Emirate of his support, while praying to Allah to grant the deceased Aljanna Firdausi and comfort the bereaved.
The killing comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Niger State, particularly communities in the Borgu axis that have experienced attacks and other criminal activities attributed to suspected bandits.
Earlier reports indicated that suspected bandits attacked Galla in Borgu, killing several people, including the village head, while raising fresh concerns over the safety of traditional rulers and rural communities in the area.
The latest incident has renewed calls for stronger security measures in communities bordering vulnerable areas of Niger State and for security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the attacks.
