Guns, drugs and three arrests across Mitchells Plain, Parow and Langa

A firearm recovery in Mitchells Plain and two separate drug seizures in Parow and Langa have resulted in three arrests following police operations across Cape Town on Wednesday, 16 September, Cape {town}Etc reports.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said its Anti-Gang Unit and Operation Lockdown III teams carried out the separate interventions, with officers recovering a .38 Special revolver and ammunition in Beacon Valley, Mandrax tablets in Parow, and a mixed consignment of drugs in Langa.

The first arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation by the Anti-Gang Unit in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain.

Police said members were acting on information received when they spotted a 20-year-old man running towards the rear of an identified premises. Officers allegedly saw him drop an object before apprehending him.

A .38 Special revolver and ammunition were subsequently recovered from the ground, according to SAPS.

The man was arrested on a charge relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.

In a separate incident, Operation Lockdown III members searched an identified premises in Duncan Road, Parow.

The search led to the discovery of 60 Mandrax tablets, which police said had been concealed behind a cupboard in the dining room.

An adult woman was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.

A further Operation Lockdown III search took place at a premises in Haarlem Street, Langa.

Police recovered a consignment containing tik, cocaine, ecstasy and Mandrax, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

SAPS said the cash is believed to be the proceeds of crime.

An adult man was arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court once charged.
