The 2026/27 Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (Fisp) beneficiaries in Ntchisi District have started redeeming their fertiliser and seed ahead of the growing season.
A total of 1 221 862 farmers are targeted under this year’s Fisp. Each beneficiary is contributing K20 000 for a 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser and K10 000 for a five-kilogramme bag of certified seed.
Speaking during the redemption exercise at Mkakaula Depot in Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district, a beneficiary Anna Singo from Masangano Farmers Organisation thanked the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development for ensuring timely fertiliser distribution.

She said that receiving fertiliser in October will enable farmers to apply it at the right time unlike in previous years when redemption sometimes took place after the rains had started.
Said Singo: “Distributing fertiliser in time enables authorities to rectify challenges on time to enable smooth redemption of the commodity.
“Now that we have the fertiliser and seed, we are just looking forward to the rains to plant our maize.”
Another beneficiary, Dennis Chafulumira, commended the redemption process, saying depositing contribution at the bank helped to curb corruption.
He also hailed the government for using farmer organisations, saying the system had eliminated the involvement of vendors and corruption.
“Early redemption will give farmers adequate time to prepare for the farming season, including preparing Mbeya organic fertiliser,” said Chafulumira.
He urged fellow beneficiaries to use the coupons for their intended purpose.
Ntchisi district chief agriculture officer Sellina Malaga said the district recorded a 98 percent fertiliser distribution rate, with supplies reaching all six selling points across the district.
The ministry has also delivered fertiliser to hard-to- reach areas and districts receiving early rains, including Chitipa, Nkhata Bay, Likoma, Makanjira in Mangochi, Mulanje, Thyolo, Neno and Mchinji.
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Roza Fatch Mbilizi launched the 2026/27 Fisp on 24 September at Kalira Primary School in Traditional Authority Vuso Jere in Ntchisi District.
