Panic within State run media as ZBC and Star FM delete footage of VP Chiwenga lashing out at Mnangagwa

VICE President Constantino Chiwenga’s chillingly frank and straight to the point address at the ongoing Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, has been deleted from all Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) platforms, NewZimbabwe.com has noted.
State-owned Star FM first restricted comments, closing off the interesting section for a post that summarised Chiwenga’s address, before completely deleting a video of the speech.
ZBC, in an apparent fire-fighting move, did the same.
Panic gripped State run media publications which could not determine what to do with Chiwenga’s raw speech which laid into President Emmerson Mnangagwa, his monied cabal within Zanu PF and ruling party members pushing anti-people reforms that will keep him in power beyond what is constitutionally mandated.
“Let us not forget that the Second Republic was founded on the pursuit of renewal, reform and a results-based governance and national development,” said Chiwenga moments before he invited Mnangagwa to speak as guest of honour.
“Chii chakaita kuti 2nd Republic ivepo? Kwaive kugadzirisa zvakaipa zvanga zvichiitika mumashure, hatisi kudzokorora here kuita zvakambotadzwa?
“This beckons us to a brutal and honest self-appraisal. We must ask ourselves the difficult questions and confront uncomfortable realities. Are our resolutions truly coming from the people? Do our conferences authentically capture the voices of the grassroots? Do we truly understand the aspirations of our people? More importantly, how should we walk our talk this time around, to serve our people better?”
Star FM’s initial post was as blant as they come, choosing to focus on the two instances he mentioned liberation war battles fought in Chinhoyi while completely avoiding his warning that Zanu PF was on a dangerous path.
At the height of the 2017 coup, soldiers were reported to have descended on Pockets Hill and demanded to know why Chiwenga’s famous press conference calling for constitutionalism was not aired on ZBC.
That press conference preceded late President Robert Mugabe’s military assisted exit.
