Midnight Fire Razes 12 Shops at Kano Community Market

A devastating fire broke out at a community market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State overnight, destroying about 12 shops and leaving traders counting their losses.

The blaze started around midnight and raged until approximately 6 a.m., according to a report from a local radio station. The affected shops belonged to traders who sold palm oil, mats, mattresses and various other goods.

Several traders said they had no idea what caused the fire. They only learned of the disaster after receiving emergency calls in the middle of the night and rushed to the market to find their businesses engulfed in flames.

They also claimed that the fire truck stationed at Gezawa Commodity Market was not working, forcing them to call for help from firefighters in Nassarawa.

The traders have appealed to the Kano State Government and the Gezawa Local Government Council to provide a functional fire truck for the area. They say a reliable emergency response vehicle is needed to handle future incidents more quickly and reduce the scale of damage.

The exact cause of the fire and the total value of the property lost have not yet been determined.
