Terricia Govender’s family returns to SA after Nepal search

The family of missing South African Terricia Govender has returned home after travelling to Nepal to search for answers following the deadly August floods.

Govender, a 33-year-old data analyst from Durban, was reported missing after flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border region.

Her family said it had exhausted the avenues available during its visit and would now rely on diplomatic processes involving the governments concerned.

Family says search focus shifts to Tibet

In a statement released on Saturday, the Govender family said it had not given up hope of finding Terricia.

The family said its focus would shift to Tibet, where it hoped authorities would allow relatives to view items recovered during search operations.

Diplomatic processes were continuing around efforts to recover and identify people missing after the disaster. The family also expressed hope that relatives of other missing South Africans would receive information about their loved ones.

The Govenders said they were not in a position to answer further questions at this stage.

Terricia had travelled to the region for a religious pilgrimage and to celebrate her birthday. Her relatives travelled to Nepal earlier this month to visit hospitals, mortuaries and affected areas in search of information.
