Manchester United fans’ reaction to Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Amass spoke volumes after Ineos did not let either player leave Old Trafford this summer.
Joshua Zirkzee was subject to a deadline-day bid from Everton after the Toffees’ £40m deal for Monaco and United States striker Folarin Balogun collapsed.
However, Manchester United rejected Everton’s approach for Zirkzee and the 25-year-old Netherlands international remained at Old Trafford after the window closed.
Zirkzee had seen interest in the summer transfer market and different clubs in Italy had been linked with him, including Serie A sides Fiorentina and Juventus.

Joshua Zirkzee did feature under Michael Carrick during the pre-season summer tour, but the Manchester United striker faces an uphill battle in the new season now.
The Dutch forward faces increasing competition for a place in the starting XI and United fans on the TalkingPoints platform were divided over him staying at the club.
One Man Utd fan said: “There was no sense in loaning without a replacement. Ineos should have had an option lined up. Happy to keep him in the circumstances.”
“The Everton offer was far too late. We need an out-and-out striker, though,” a second Red Devils supporter posted.
Another wrote: “What a shambles from Ineos. Now stuck with a player who probably won’t get much playing time and too much of the window was taken up going after unattainable players like [Aurelien] Tchouameni.”
Somebody else commented: “He isn’t of a high enough calibre to play at United. All that has happened here is Ineos have throttled any chance of him getting decent [playing] time. The lad’s career will have [Man] Utd on his CV, but the stats don’t lie. Bad business yet again, and the defence along with the forward line is left needing. Dead weight, bad deals and they’ll blame the gaffer!”
“We all know he’s not a profound striker, but we all know he’s ideal [for the] position. Why not play him there and save us the talk that’s all,” a fifth claimed.
While a sixth TalkingPoints user argued: “This is now on Carrick and [his] coaches. Make Zirkzee the player we need with good coaching!! There is skill in Zirkzee for sure! Please make something of the lad! It is in the job description – coach!”
United fans had been frustrated after news in the summer that the Red Devils would be open to selling Harry Amass if the right offer presented itself for the player.
However, the fact that Amass is still at Old Trafford has been welcomed by Red Devils supporters amid the debate in United In Focus’ TalkingPoints platform.
A Red Devils fan wrote: “Yes, happy. He should now be given an opportunity to show what he can do.”
While a second Man Utd supporter shared: “Amass will get his chances. [Luke] Shaw will pick up an injury or two. I’d rather this than a stopgap.”
Someone else added: “Good, he will be needed.”
“I’m very well pleased with the decision. “Let’s give him [a] chance,” a fourth posted.
And a fifth TalkingPoints user said: “Very happy we kept Harry Amass. Loads of potential and no big transfer fee. Absolutely ridiculous the price they were going to sell him for. You show them, Harry. The fans are behind you, lad.”
Man Utd left-back Amass had seen interest from several clubs in the summer, including Birmingham City, Burnley, West Ham, Wolves and Norwich City.
