Cotecna acquires Energon Labs to expand pharmaceutical testing in India

INDIA—Cotecna has acquired Energon Labs, an analytical testing laboratory in Hyderabad, India, to expand its pharmaceutical testing capabilities and strengthen its global Life Sciences business.

The acquisition adds laboratory capacity and technical expertise across the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device and packaging sectors.

Energon serves customers in India, the United States, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, with expertise in analytical testing, regulatory compliance and quality assurance.

Expanding pharmaceutical testing capabilities

Energon operates a current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) compliant laboratory inspected by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).

It also holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certifications, supporting its quality management and laboratory testing operations.

Its location in Hyderabad gives Cotecna access to specialized scientific personnel, established laboratory infrastructure and a major pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.

India plays a significant role in global medicine production, making laboratory testing and quality assurance important for manufacturers supplying domestic and international markets.

The acquisition will enable Cotecna to serve pharmaceutical companies with a broader range of regulatory compliant testing services, while improving its capacity to respond to customer requirements across key markets.

It also supports manufacturers seeking reliable analytical services as regulatory expectations and product development needs evolve.

Energon’s services include analytical method development and validation, stability studies, impurity profiling, extractables and leachables testing, glass delamination studies, and peptide and oligonucleotide characterization.

The laboratory also provides raw material and finished product testing, in vitro binding studies, packaging compatibility assessments and regulatory support.

These services complement Cotecna’s existing pharmaceutical testing operations, which include Cotecna Life Sciences, Shiva Analyticals and Neotron Pharma.

The expanded network will support customers at different stages of product development and manufacturing, from analytical characterization to quality control and regulatory compliance.

Strengthening the Life Sciences business

Sébastien Dannaud, Chief Executive Officer of Cotecna Group, said the acquisition supports the company’s ambition to become a major provider of Life Sciences testing services in India and strengthens its presence in a key pharmaceutical market.

Amit Chopra, CEO for South Asia and the Middle East at Cotecna Group, said Energon’s technical expertise, experienced team and established customer relationships would strengthen the company’s pharmaceutical testing network.

He added that the acquisition aligns with Cotecna’s strategy to develop a comprehensive pharmaceutical testing platform across growth markets, serving pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in India and internationally.

Manikanth Reddy, founder of Energon Labs, said joining Cotecna would create opportunities to expand the laboratory’s capabilities and service portfolio.

He added that the team would continue to focus on analytical quality, scientific expertise and reliable customer service as part of the larger group.
