Black Maidens midfielder Seidatu Wahab says Ghana entered their decisive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup clash against Canada determined to secure victory and nothing less.
Wahab, who was named Player of the Match after Ghana’s 2-0 win, delivered an impressive performance in midfield as the team booked its place in the Round of 16.
The midfielder admitted she had struggled for form in recent matches but was determined to give her best in the crucial qualification encounter.
“I’m really excited. Lately, in my matches, I have been down, but this is the final game. Not the final, but this is the qualification match, so I have to bring my all out,” Wahab said.
She also spoke about the responsibility of leading the team during a difficult match, insisting that Ghana’s only objective was to win.
“The match was really tough, but I have to show I’m a leader. So, I brought all what I have in me. We really came for a win. That’s the only thing we came for. No draw, no loss, but a win.”
Wahab, who played a key role in controlling the midfield against Canada, also expressed confidence in the team’s ability to handle pressure.
“It was really a tough game, but nothing is really tough for the Maidens,” she added.
The Player of the Match also thanked the people who supported her, giving special recognition to her best friend, parents and teammates.
“I would like to thank my best friend. Yeah, she’s the person I really thank, and my parents too. My teammates, they really helped me.”
Goals from Linda Achiaa and Christiana Ashiaku secured Ghana’s 2-0 victory over Canada and confirmed the Black Maidens’ qualification for the Round of 16, where they are set to face Argentina on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
