Property worth millions destroyed in another market fire incident in Kano

Property worth millions of Naira were destroyed in Kano State following a fire outbreak that occurred at Kofar Wambai Market on Friday night.

The tragic incident broke out at about 9.00-10. 00pm and directly affected Babban Layi and Yan Robobi Section of the market.

Daily Sun reports that approximately six houses, identified as Gidan Alhaji Sani, Gidan Sani Muhammad, Gidan Alhaji Kwa Kwa, Gidan Alhaji Shafi’u, and Gidan Alhaji Sulaiman, were directly affected.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi confirmed the outbreak and said the fire started from the upper floor of one of the houses and moved downwards.

The statement added that in all, the fire affected two shops on the ground floor, two shops on the first floor, six stores, and four temporary stores on the upper floor of the buildings.

The affected houses, it was observed, were mostly used as shops for the sales of plastics and as storage facilities.

The Fire Service traced the cause of fire to a solar panel situated in the affected area.

Firefighters from the Service Headquarters, Rijiyar Zaki, Sabon Gari, Government House and Bompai Fire Stations arrived following ghe outbreak and prevented it from spreading further.

Director, Kano Fire Service, Sani Anas, in his reaction appealed to the members of the public and traders to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks in the state.

He further urged residents and traders to equip their homes and shops with fire detectors and functional fire extinguishers, and to ensure that appropriate fire-safety measures are observed at all times.
