Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her late husband, Carl Dean, following a private family funeral in Nashville.
The country music legend was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum on Friday, days after she died peacefully in Nashville at the age of 80. Her death was officially announced on 25 August.
Her great-niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed the burial in an emotional tribute posted the following day.
“It still doesn’t feel real that she’s gone. I’m going to miss her voice, her laugh, her hugs, and just knowing she was there,” Lainey wrote.
Referring to the singer as “granny”, she described the close relationship Parton shared with younger members of her extended family.
“Because she couldn’t have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers. She loved us that way, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”
Lainey said Parton had encouraged her ambitions from childhood and gave her the confidence to believe that her goals were achievable.
“From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”
The tribute also revealed that Parton supported Lainey through beauty school, providing practical help as she began building her career.
“She didn’t just tell me to chase my dreams, she helped me get there,” Lainey wrote.
She thanked fans and well-wishers who had sent flowers and messages of support to the family following Parton’s death.
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to call her my granny,” she added. “Thank you for always believing in me, loving me, and making me feel like I could do anything. I love you, Granny. Always.”
Parton’s funeral was attended privately by members of her family. She was buried alongside Dean, her husband of nearly six decades, at the Nashville cemetery.
