The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 68 suspected drug traffickers and seized 7,531.51 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs in August 2026.
The agency also destroyed four cannabis farms covering a total of 2.573331 hectares, with an estimated yield of 6,433.33 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa within the period.
The State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s scorecard in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
He said the 68 suspects arrested comprised 34 males and 34 females, noting that the gender balance further demonstrated that substance abuse has no respect for sex.
Giving a breakdown of the seizures, Ofoyeju said the 7,524.83 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa comprised 1,098.177 kilogrammes seized from suspects and 6,433.33 kilogrammes destroyed in plantations.
“Others are 5.3311 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances, 0.0668 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and 34.8 litres of codeine syrup,” he said.
Ofoyeju further disclosed that the command destroyed four cannabis farms totalling 2.573331 hectares in Orhionmwon and Owan West Local Government Areas, with an estimated yield of 6,433.33 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa.
He said two of the farms were destroyed in Igbanke Forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, while the other two were located in Ukaro Forest and Ewe Forest in Owan West Local Government Area.
He added that the agency rehabilitated 23 drug-dependent persons and enrolled 12 others in vocational training programmes, including tailoring, perfume-making and liquid soap production.
