Activist Agape Khombe has spent nearly three weeks at Maula Prison following his arrest on August 19 in connection with Facebook posts concerning a property transaction involving footballer Tabitha Chawinga.
Khombe was charged on August 21 with offensive communication and cyberstalking over posts in which he alleged that lawyer Edgar Kachere had duped Chawinga in a transaction involving the purchase of a house in Lilongwe.
Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda denied Khombe bail, citing his previous alleged failure to comply with bail conditions in a separate defilement case.
However, defence lawyer Khwima Mchizi said in a written response today that the court is expected to rule on Friday on their application challenging the revocation of Khombe’s bail.
Khombe has remained in custody at Maula Prison since his arrest as he awaits the court’s decision.
The Friday ruling will determine whether he will be released on bail while the current case proceeds.
