Ebonyi PDP governorship candidate Odii unveils empowerment for 3,420

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has unveiled a ward-level empowerment scheme targeting 3,420 people as part of efforts to establish a grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election.  Odii announced the initiative at a pre-campaign council and strategic stakeholders meeting of the Anyi G’Emeya Movement in Abakaliki, where he said 20 people would be empowered in each of the state’s 171 wards.  The PDP candidate said the ward-level intervention would subsequently be extended to polling units across the state, with ward leaders expected to oversee the selection of beneficiaries for the first phase.  He said the initiative was part of preparations for the formal commencement of the party’s campaign, adding that the campaign would move from the state level to the 13 local government areas and subsequently to the wards.  “We have called this stakeholders meeting to prepare the ground for a formal commencement of our campaign. In doing this, we have resolved to empower 20 people per ward across the state. This will be followed by more empowerment at the polling unit level,” Odii said.  The development represents one of the more detailed grassroots components of Odii’s campaign plan so far, with the candidate saying the structure would give people at community level a role in the political process.  He told party leaders, elders, women, youths and grassroots supporters that his proposed administration would be built around participation, saying: “This is a government every Ebonyian will play key roles from the beginning. We are committed to serving you.”  Beyond the immediate empowerment plan, Odii said his administration, if elected, would pursue policies aimed at shifting Ebonyi from what he described as subsistence economic activities to an industrial and investment-driven economy.  He said his blueprint, A Promise of Possibility, would prioritise job creation, agribusiness, healthcare, education, infrastructure, enterprise development and exploitation of the state’s solid mineral resources.  On agriculture, the PDP candidate proposed Farmer Income Stabilisation and Social Safety-Net Schemes, agro-processing plants and a flagship Agro-Industrial Park for rice, cassava, yam and other priority commodities.  He also promised affordable healthcare across the 13 LGAs and pledged to leverage the state’s limestone, crushed stone and salt resources at Okposi and Uburu, alongside the digital and creative economies.  Odii further said his proposed government would introduce merit-based recruitment, transparent public financial management and performance-based governance, describing these as part of his plan to build what he called a “new Ebonyi State.”  The PDP candidate had previously emerged unopposed as the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, polling 8,281 votes at the May primary.
