Nigeria at 66: Sokoto commissioner lauds Tinubu over Illela-Badagry Super Highway By Sidi A Umar Sokoto The Sokoto state Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Illela–Badagry Super Highway, adding that the project would bring rapid development to rural comminities “The massive infrastructural projects being executed under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will improve the socio-economic development of Sokoto State and Nigeria at large,” he said. The commissioner spoke to journalists on Friday in Sokoto while assessing progress recorded since independence. Adare said: “We are today under the leadership of His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Here in Sokoto, we are all witnessing a major road which is under construction from Illela down to Badagry, which is ongoing and when completed will certainly help to improve socio-economic development of our state and the nation at large.” The Dallatun Gobir further said road construction guarantees access to farm produce, markets, schools, improves security and other issues related to human capital development. “We have also seen the very road which is under construction from Sokoto to Gusau, which is also important in the lives of our people here,” he added. On security, the Commissioner said the Federal Government has made significant contributions in collaboration with states. “They have collaborated to train Forest Guards here in the state, which will also help to facilitate provision of security. ” At all times, the military, the police, the civil defence are always willing to collaborate with the state to also ensure security of lives and properties of our people,” he said. On the part of the state government, Adare said Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, during the campaign, promised to improve socio-economic development and came up with his Nine Points Smart Innovative Agenda which he is smartly following. He listed achievements recorded to include those in education like renovation, construction and rehabilitation of schools that have been ongoing across the state. Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare further noted that after a long time without cash allocation for secondary schools, Gov. Aliyu has ensured provision of cash allocation to principals to handle minor repairs. According to him, in religious affairs, government has improved, rehabilitated and constructed new mosques, providing monthly allowances to Imams and Muazzins and supporting less privileged persons and internally displaced persons. Adare said, “In agriculture, government purchased fertilizer worth billions of naira, chemicals and improved seeds which were distributed free of charge to farmers across the state. In security, the LGs Affairs Commissioner said that the state government had purchased over 300 vehicles and provides monthly logistics support to security agencies. “Matters of security are brought by Almighty Allah. We have to go back to Him, we have to continue to pray and we have to be watchful of new faces in our environment,” he said, urged stakeholders particularly district heads, village heads and local government chairmen to be watchful. Adare also said that many problems in communities are influenced by activities of informants who sell villages or hamlets to bandits to collect money, hence vigilance is a responsibility of all. “Other achievements included beautification and desilting of Sokoto City and various communities across the 23 local government areas, tremendous construction of roads including rural roads, support in transportation to ease movement across LGAs, and water supply with over 250 solar-powered boreholes drilled across communities. “So many more achievements have been recorded by Sokoto State Government,” he said.
