Former Citizen TV anchor Yvonne Okwara wasted little time starting her next chapter. Less than 24 hours after announcing her departure from the Royal Media Services-owned station, the prominent journo has joined Shuga Global as Head of Investments and Partnerships.

Shuga Global announced her appointment on Wednesday, October 28. The organization described Okwara as an experienced communications professional whose work spans television journalism, corporate communications, fundraising, and government relations.

“Shuga Global understands that our communities need opportunities for expanded reach beyond grant-dependency. This is why we are beyond excited to introduce our new Head of Investments and Partnerships, Yvonne Okwara,” the organization announced.

In her new role, Okwara will build strategic partnerships, attract investment, and mobilize resources for programmes aimed at young people. She joins Shuga Global as it rebrands and pursues a wider international presence, with a focus on reducing its reliance on traditional grant funding.

The organization said Okwara’s background in business, policy, and social impact would help it secure new funding and strengthen its long-term financial sustainability.

The move takes Okwara from examining policy decisions and national development issues on television to building partnerships and mobilizing resources for social impact initiatives.

For Shuga Global, her appointment supports its broader effort to continue its two-decade mission of empowering young people while growing beyond traditional donor funding.
