Wumi Toriola’s son’s 7th birthday: 5 moments that stole the show, from Femi Adebayo-Funke Akindele ‘shipping’ to Desola Afod shade

Sometimes, the most talked-about parts of a celebration have little to do with the reason people gathered in the first place. A single interaction, a song or an unexpected gesture can change the mood of an event and give people something to discuss long after the guests have gone home.

That was the case at Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola’s son Zion’s seventh birthday party in Lagos on Saturday, October 17, 2026. While the occasion marked another milestone in the young boy’s life, some moments from the celebration soon became talking points online, drawing reactions for different reasons.

From an interaction between two popular actors that got fans imagining a possible romance to a pointed musical reference that brought an earlier controversy back into the conversation, the party had no shortage of memorable scenes.

Here are five moments with videos, that stole the show at Wumi Toriola’s son’s seventh birthday party.

1. Wumi Toriola takes a swipe at Desola Afod with ‘Awon Onitiata’ reference

Wumi Toriola appeared to have a message for her colleague, Kunle Afod’s estranged wife, Desola Afod when she took to the stage during her son’s birthday party.

While a singer performed, Wumi urged the artiste to include “Awon Onitiata” in the song’s lyrics. Although she was singing along and enjoying the performance, the remark did not go unnoticed, with many interpreting it as a fresh dig at Desola. The moment was particularly striking because it came just days after the controversy surrounding Desola’s comments about respect within the movie industry.

Desola Afod

The disagreement began after Desola complained about actors and actresses addressing her by her first name, arguing that she was older than some of them and deserved to be addressed with greater respect. Her use of the phrase “Gbogbo ẹyin oni tiatia” drew criticism from some movie practitioners, who felt she had generalised her grievance and insulted the industry.

Wumi was among those who reacted. She criticised Desola’s statement and argued that she should address the individuals she had issues with instead of making a sweeping remark about colleagues. Desola later apologised to movie practitioners on October 14, 2026, taking responsibility for her choice of words.

However, Wumi’s performance at the birthday party suggested that the matter was not entirely settled, at least in the eyes of those watching the video. Although Wumi did not need to mention Desola by name for people to connect the dots, the timing and the reference to “Onitiatia” made the moment particularly interesting.

2. Femi Adebayo seemingly holds back from holding Funke Akindele by the waist

Femi Adebayo and Funke Akindele may have simply been exchanging pleasantries with colleagues, but one brief moment between them was enough to get netizens talking.

At the party, the two actors were seen standing among other guests, greeting people and engaging in conversations. During the interaction, Femi appeared to move as though he wanted to hold Funke by the waist before seemingly stopping himself.

It was a brief gesture, but viewers who noticed it began reading different meanings into the interaction.

Some netizens jokingly shipped the actors, suggesting that they would make an interesting couple. Others expressed their enthusiasm for the idea, with some indicating that they would happily support the pairing even if the actors were not romantically involved.

Their seating arrangement also caught attention, as the two were spotted at the same table during the celebration. Of course, neither the interaction nor their sitting together establishes that there is a romantic relationship between them. The reactions were largely based on shippers interpretations of their body language and their desire to see the pair together.

3. Wumi Toriola gets emotional as ‘Who’s Your Guy’ plays, shares a moment with Seyi Edun

One of the more emotional moments of the celebration came when Spyro’s hit song “Who’s Your Guy” was being performed. Wumi was on stage dancing with guests when the song appeared to trigger an emotional reaction. Rather than simply enjoying the music, the actress became tearful, turning the moment into something more personal.

Among those sharing the stage with her was Seyi Edun, an actress who was once one of Wumi’s closest friends. Their appearance together was significant because their friendship had suffered a public fallout that lasted for years. The two actresses, who were once known for their closeness, eventually went their separate ways following a disagreement that played out on social media.

Their rift became particularly painful when personal issues were brought into the dispute. For years, fans who had followed their friendship had little reason to expect that they would become close again.

However, that changed in 2026. In May, Seyi’s husband, actor Adeniyi Johnson, shared a photograph of himself with the two actresses and captioned it, “VACATION IS OVER.” The post drew attention because it suggested that the former friends had reconciled.

Wumi later publicly celebrated Seyi on her birthday in June, expressing gratitude that they had found their way back to each other. Seyi also responded warmly, making their renewed friendship clearer to their followers.

Against that background, seeing the two women together at Zion’s birthday carried extra meaning for fans who remembered their earlier disagreement. As Wumi became emotional, Seyi was seen drawing her close and hugging her. The moment attracted affectionate reactions from viewers who were happy to see the former friends sharing such a tender interaction again.

Their reunion at the party was a reminder that, even after years of estrangement, friendships can find a way back.

4. Mo Bimpe sprays ₦100 notes, sparking criticism and ‘One Kobo’ jokes

Mo Bimpe became another subject of discussion after a video showed her spraying ₦100 notes at Wumi’s son’s birthday party. This came after viral videos of other actors giving bundles of ₦500, ₦1000 notes to Wumi, as well as $100 bills.

The actress and filmmaker’s choice of denomination surprised some viewers, with netizens questioning why she was spraying ₦100 notes at a celebration attended by several celebrities.

Others turned the moment into an opportunity to joke about One Kobo, her movie, suggesting that she was taking the film’s title too seriously.
The criticism soon became part of the conversation online surrounding the party, however, Mo Bimpe later made it clear that the gesture was intentional.

On Monday, October 19, she addressed the conversation on her Instagram stories, explaining that the ₦100-note spray was a promotional stunt for One Kobo, which was available on her YouTube channel, MoBimpeTV. In a playful post, she urged people to watch the movie, writing:

“people should go and watch ONE KOBO on MobimpeTv una no go rest if you don’t watch my movie I need money biko ”

She also shared additional footage from the same event showing her spraying ₦1,000 notes, prompting some people who had criticised her earlier to reconsider their reactions.

5. Wumi Toriola honours late gospel singer Toluwanisings

Beyond the celebrity interactions and online controversies, the party also had a deeply emotional moment when Wumi Toriola ensured that late gospel singer Toluwanisings was honoured.

The singer, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 41. His death came just days before Zion’s birthday celebration.

During the party, Wumi made sure that singer Boye Best dedicated a moment to the late gospel minister. As the tribute was performed, the actress became emotional and sang along, visibly struggling to hold back her tears.

The timing made the tribute especially poignant. Toluwanisings had died only three days earlier, leaving many of his admirers and members of the gospel music community mourning his passing.

Toluwanisings

Known for his gospel music and contemporary approach to Yoruba praise, he had built a following through songs that celebrated faith and worship. His death was a painful loss for those who connected with his ministry.

Although Zion’s birthday was a celebration of life and another year of growth, Wumi’s decision to make room for the tribute showed that the occasion could also accommodate a moment of remembrance.

Her emotional reaction made the scene stand out among the videos from the party. It was not simply another performance or celebrity appearance; it was an opportunity to honour someone whose death was still fresh in the minds of many.

Conclusion

Wumi Toriola’s son’s seventh birthday party brought together some of Nollywood’s familiar faces, but it was the moments beyond the birthday festivities that kept people talking.

From the apparent shade directed at Desola Afod and the playful shipping of Femi Adebayo and Funke Akindele to Mo Bimpe’s unusual promotional stunt, the celebration produced plenty of material for social media discussions.

Yet the more emotional scenes offered a different side to the event. Wumi’s moment with Seyi Edun brought attention to a friendship that had survived years of estrangement, while the tribute to Toluwanisings provided an opportunity to honour a late gospel singer just days after his death.

Together, these five moments showed how a single celebration can become a meeting point for celebrity drama, humour, reconciliation and remembrance. And although the occasion was organised to celebrate Zion turning seven, the conversations that followed ensured that his mother’s party became a talking point in its own right.
