FIFA expected to pay Ghana $12.5m by end of September after 2026 World Cup, Kofi Adams says

Ghana is expecting to receive US$12.5 million from FIFA before the end of September as part of the countrys financial returns from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has revealed.Adams said discussions over taxation and the final settlement of Ghanas World Cup-related funds are still ongoing, with the government expecting FIFA to complete its processes with the host nations before the end of the month.The country is supposed to benefit from its participation in this World Cup. But as I speak to you, we are yet to conclude on that and receive those funds. We hope that by the end of this month, FIFA will have concluded all their processes and agreements with the host countries.So, we will know the tax issues and how much our portion of what is due us will be. This money is very important to us through the FA. And as the law passed by the Parliament of Ghana states, immediately it will be transferred to the Sports Fund, Adams said.He explained that once the tax arrangements are settled, Ghanas exact share will be determined before the funds are transferred into the Sports Fund as required by law.The expected payment comes after the Black Stars reach the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup.Ghana opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw. They then lost 2-1 to Croatia but advanced to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.Their campaign ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, leaving Ghana 24th overall among the 48 teams.Adams said the tournament had also highlighted areas requiring improvement, including coaching, team philosophy, long-term planning and sustainable financing for the national teams.
