The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has condoled with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the family of Emmanuel Ugboaja, following his demise.
Until his death, Ugboaja was the general secretary of the NLC, one of Nigeria’s two labour centres.
Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, the director- general/chief executive officer of NECA, in a condolence letter he personally signed and addressed to Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, described Ugboaja’s death as a significant loss, not only to the NLC, but also to Nigeria’s broader industrial relations community.
According to Oyerinde, throughout the deceased’s career in the trade union movement, he demonstrated a deep commitment to the advancement of workers’ interests, social dialogue and the pursuit of a stable and productive industrial relations environment.
“As general secretary of the NLC, Comrade Ugboaja was an important voice in engagements among Labour, Employers and Government. His wealth of experience, particularly in industrial relations, negotiation and labour administration, contributed immensely to the work of the social partners and to the development of Nigeria’s labour relations system.
“At NECA, we recognise and appreciate his years of service to the labour movement and his contributions to engagements between organised labour and the organised private sector. His passing leaves a void within the community of practitioners and leaders committed to constructive social dialogue and decent work in Nigeria,” Oyerinde said.
He prayed for God to grant the late comrade’s family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss, and to his soul, eternal rest.
