Zimbabwean Chef Reveals How He Was Mistaken For The Man In Viral Sandton Video

A Zimbabwean chef based in Norway has spoken out after social media users mistakenly identified him as businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama, whose Sandton restaurant video has gone viral. The chef said the confusion left him surprised to see his own name and photographs being linked to the controversy.

Chef Lawrence Mudzinganyama Denies Sandton Video Link

The chef explained in a video that he had been alerted to posts circulating across social media platforms.

“Apparently I am trending on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that I was insulting women in Sandton.”

He said he was not in South Africa when the incident happened and works aboard cruise ships in Norway.

The chef also rejected claims that he owns a Johannesburg company, saying the information being circulated belonged to another man.

“I am not Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama. I am Lawrence Mudzinganyama, they are two different people.”

Chef Appeals For Social Media Posts To Be Removed

Mudzinganyama said he is simply a chef and does not own the business reportedly associated with the businessman.

“I am just a regular citizen and a chef.”

He appealed to users who had shared his photographs alongside posts about the Sandton controversy to remove them.

“So please delete your post and look for the right person.”

The clarification comes as the businessman at the centre of the Sandton incident faces scrutiny over the viral footage. A case of intimidation was reportedly opened following the incident, while the businessman later apologised and said he would seek professional guidance.

Moriel Infrastructure Group also announced that it had ended its association with him as executive chairman and director.

For the chef, the episode has instead become a case of mistaken identity involving two Zimbabweans who share the same name.
