THE Zambia Police Service has put security measures in place ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said in a statement that officers have been deployed at the venue and other strategic locations. Patrols have also been intensified to ensure public safety and order.
“The presence of police officers is not intended to intimidate members of the public, but to ensure maximum safety and security before, during and after the event,” Chilabi said.
Motorists should expect temporary road closures on roads leading to the stadium, as well as traffic diversions, to allow movement of the presidential motorcade, dignitaries and official processions.
Chilabi urged motorists to be patient, cooperate with traffic officers, plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
Members of the public were also advised to remain vigilant, safeguard valuables and report suspicious behavior to the nearest officer. Parents and guardians were urged to keep close watch over children.
The police service assured the public that law and order will be maintained throughout the event.
