Ouaddou Backs Da Cruz Amid Chiefs Criticism

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has come to the defence of Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz, offering a positive assessment of the work being done at Naturena despite the criticism surrounding the Amakhosi technical team.

Da Cruz has faced scrutiny from sections of the Chiefs supporters and football observers as the club continues its efforts to improve its performances. However, Ouaddou believes that the criticism should be considered alongside the team’s results and the football philosophy being developed under the coach.

The Pirates tactician pointed to Chiefs’ ability to avoid defeats and suggested that their performances deserve recognition, despite the opinions being expressed about their approach.

Speaking about Da Cruz and his team, Ouaddou said: “They are doing well because a lot of people can speak, a lot of people can criticise, but if you see they are not losing games, they have an interesting game model”

His remarks provide a different perspective on the debate surrounding Chiefs, particularly as expectations remain high at one of South Africa’s most followed football clubs.

For Da Cruz, managing criticism while establishing a consistent playing identity is part of the challenge of leading Amakhosi. Supporters naturally expect positive results and convincing performances, but building a team capable of competing consistently can require time.

Ouaddou’s comments also highlight the importance of examining a team’s overall progress rather than judging its coach solely through individual performances or public reactions.

The fact that the Pirates coach has acknowledged Chiefs’ playing model is notable given the rivalry between the two clubs.

As the season progresses, Da Cruz will be expected to maintain positive results and demonstrate further improvement in the team’s performances.
