From the slopes of Wanale and the wider Mount Elgon landscape to its rivers, forests, cultural traditions, and historic sites, Mbale City has long had features that defined it.

But as the city expands, some of the features that once gave Mbale its distinctive character have changed, declined, or disappeared altogether.For older residents, the transformation is more than a change in the cityscape.
