“It’s Not Everyday You Beat Mamelodi in Their Home Turf” – Beto Bianchi

Beto Bianchi has delivered a confident assessment of his team’s achievement after securing qualification against Mamelodi Sundowns, explaining how disciplined defending and clinical finishing helped his side overcome pressure on the South African club’s home turf.

The coach acknowledged that facing Sundowns away from home was always going to be difficult.

However, his team remained organised defensively, absorbed the pressure and made its opportunity count when it mattered most.

“It’s not everyday you beat Mamelodi in their home turf,” Bianchi said, reflecting on the significance of the result.

His comments underline the challenge of playing against Sundowns, a team known for its attacking quality and ability to create opportunities. Bianchi expected the hosts to push forward, and he said his players prepared for that pressure by defending in a low block.

“It was evident they would push us, we defended well in a low block,” he explained.

Rather than trying to match Sundowns in an open attacking contest, Bianchi’s team concentrated on maintaining its defensive shape and limiting the space available to the opposition.

The approach required patience, discipline and a willingness to withstand sustained pressure.

According to Bianchi, Sundowns created plenty of chances during the encounter. Yet his side found a way to make the decisive difference, demonstrating how football can reward efficiency as much as attacking dominance.

“They had lots of chances but this is football — we take one shot and qualified,” he said.

That statement captures the central story of the contest: Sundowns had opportunities, but Bianchi’s team made its chance count and secured the qualification outcome it needed.

For supporters, the result offers a reminder that possession and chances do not always determine the winner.

A team that remains compact, avoids costly mistakes and takes advantage of a crucial opportunity can upset expectations, even when facing a strong opponent away from home.

Bianchi’s comments also suggest that he was pleased with the way his players executed their defensive plan. The low block was not simply about sitting back; it was a strategy designed to cope with Sundowns’ expected attacking pressure while keeping the team in contention.

The achievement is particularly significant because qualifying in a difficult away setting can demand composure from players throughout the match.

Every defensive intervention and attacking opportunity can influence the final outcome.
