President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula to rest after his dramatic collapse during a media briefing on Thursday.
Mbalula was visibly emotional after the Constitutional Court ruled in the ANC’s favour in its case against the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC). He was later seen collapsing while speaking to the media.
Ramaphosa said Mbalula was recovering and had been under significant stress, telling journalists that he had ordered the ANC secretary-general not to return to work until he and doctors were satisfied that he was fully recovered.

Home Affairs has come under scrutiny over self-service kiosks that were bought but never deployed, with Parliament questioning the money spent on the devices, ongoing licence costs and delays in delivering promised services.
The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs postponed a briefing after the department’s director-general and chief financial officer failed to attend a scheduled meeting.
During an oversight visit to Pretoria, committee members found that kiosks had been procured but not deployed, raising questions about whether the investment was delivering any benefits to the public.
The committee is also concerned about the cost of maintaining licences for unused kiosks and said it remained unclear whether the promised improvements to service delivery were being realised.
