Claude Fable 5.1 is Anthropic’s most capable model for long-running tasks that require little supervision. It replaces Claude Fable 5 and sits above Opus 5 and Sonnet 5 in Anthropic’s lineup. You can use it for jobs that need planning and reasoning across many steps, with repeated tool use.
A regular chatbot answers one prompt at a time. An agent can open files, search documents, write code, run tests, and adjust its plan as it works. Fable 5.1 is built to stay useful through these longer chains of actions.
The model reads text and images, and it replies in text. It can read screenshots, charts, tables, and documents, but it cannot create images. Its training data has a June 2026 knowledge cutoff.
Fable 5.1 always uses adaptive thinking. You and your developers can control how much reasoning the model uses through an effort setting. The default is high, and you cannot turn reasoning off completely.

US-only inference carries a 1.1 times price multiplier for input and output. Batch processing costs half the standard input and output rates, but you have to wait for the batch to finish.
Fable 5.1 is available on every paid Claude plan, but the billing works differently across plans. Pro and standard Team subscribers need usage credits, since their normal plan allowance does not cover Fable use.
Max subscribers and premium Team seats get Fable access as part of their plan. Anthropic lets you spend up to 50% of your weekly usage limit on Fable. Once you hit that limit, you can switch models or buy more usage.
Legacy Enterprise seats may need an administrator to turn on usage credits. Companies on usage-based Enterprise plans pay the standard API rates.
