***Alleged wife murder ***
A Mariental resident facing charges of murder, two counts of murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and robbery appeared for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday before Judge Philanda Christiaan. He is accused of stabbing his then-romantic partner, Albertina Swartbooi, whom he was living with in the nature of marriage, multiple times with a knife or sharp object. He is also accused of attempting to murder his stepdaughter, who was living with them, by strangling her while she was sleeping in the Takarania settlement in Mariental.
***Farm shooting ***
British businessman Harvey Boulter, accused of shooting his farm manager in the abdomen with a pistol at his farm near Kamanjab in 2021, also made an appearance on Tuesday. The State indicated that it reviewed the expert’s opinions that the defence intended to rely on but questioned whether the two South African experts were registered in accordance with Namibian regulations for their evidence to be admissible. It also questioned inconsistencies by the defence regarding DNA evidence and the transcription of the bail record. The matter was postponed to 29 September 2026 to allow the state and the defence to iron out all outstanding issues.
***Alleged transgender woman ‘killers’ ***
Two young men accused of killing and mutilating the body of transgender woman Christof Fredericks in May last year in Otjomuise supposedly intend to tender guilty pleas, according to their lawyer on Tuesday during the pre-trial conference. Elias Namwandi Nandomba and Mervin Beukes face charges of murder, two counts of rape, violating a dead human body and defeating the course of justice in relation to the death of Fredericks. The matter was postponed to 29 September 2026 for the state to consider the guilty pleas that the accused intend on tendering.
