HARARE, Aug. 26 (NewsDay Live) – The Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ) has opened a new clinic in Harare’s central business district, expanding its national network to seven facilities as the organisation prepares to open another clinic in Bulawayo next month with support from Sweden.
Health and Child Care minister Sleiman Kwidini said the investment demonstrated the value of partnerships between government, the private sector and development partners in expanding access to healthcare.
“This clinic contributes directly to these priorities by bringing healthcare closer to the thousands of people who live, work and conduct business in the Harare central business district,” Kwidini said.
He said the facility would support efforts to improve access to family planning, adolescent sexual and reproductive health services, as well as age-appropriate information for young people.
The government, he said, was working to reduce the unmet need for family planning, remove barriers to contraceptive use and improve the availability of reproductive health commodities.
“Family planning should not be viewed solely as contraception, but as a means of enabling individuals and families to make informed decisions about their health, future and the wellbeing of their children,” Kwidini said.
Kwidini said the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers, also required greater investment in prevention, screening and early diagnosis.
The new facility forms part of a broader push to bring healthcare services closer to urban populations while expanding access to reproductive and preventive healthcare.
