Two Suspects Arrested With Weapons in Lumbadzi

Police in Lumbadzi have arrested two men suspected of being members of a criminal gang after they were found in possession of various offensive weapons and items believed to be linked to a planned robbery.

Lumbadzi Police spokesperson Felix Kwinyani said the suspects, identified as Mphatso Gabriel and Harrison Solomoni Steven, were arrested after police received a tip-off that the two were travelling from Kanengo towards Lumbadzi on the night between Friday and Saturday.

Police intercepted the vehicle at an ad-hoc roadblock mounted at the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) Junction.

According to Kwinyani, a search of the suspects and their belongings led to the recovery of panga knives, an axe, crowbars, burglar bars, face masks, socks and hooded tops, among other items.

Police suspect that the recovered items were intended for use in a planned robbery.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations into the matter continue.
