The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appealed CAFs decision to overturn Edo Queens penalty-shootout victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU Zone B Womens Champions League qualifying final. The NFF lodged its appeal on September 30, challenging CAFs ruling that the final must resume from 2-2 and be decided after extra time and, if necessary, another penalty shootout.Edo Queens won the September 5 final 4-1 on penalties after the teams drew 2-2 in regulation time in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. CAF later ruled that the shootout was premature because competition regulations require two 15-minute periods of extra time before penalties. While CAF attributed the mistake to an administrative instruction and cleared both clubs of responsibility, the NFF argues that Edo Queens should not lose the sporting benefit of their victory because of an officials error.Edo Queens neither elected nor requested that extra time be dispensed with, the NFF stated. The fact that Edo Queens ultimately won the shoot-out cannot retrospectively convert its compliance with the referees instruction into responsibility for the regulatory breach. The federation further argued: There is an important distinction between benefiting from an officials error and causing or procuring the error.CAF upheld Ampem Darkoas protest but rejected a full replay, ordering the match to restart at 2-2 before two periods of extra time. The winner will claim WAFU Zone Bs place at the 2026 CAF Womens Champions League final tournament.
