Zambia Airways Limited has named Aman Wole Gurmu, an Ethiopian aviation expert, as its Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 August 2026
Zambia’s national flag carrier announced the new executive appointment by its board of Directors in a statement issued on Friday.
The move aims to support Zambia Airways’ business development plans in line with its expansion strategy and boost regional connectivity.
Its new CEO has more than 19 years of international aviation expertise, spanning airline leadership, commercial strategy, sales, market development, and strategic partnerships.
“Mr Aman Wole brings valuable expertise to lead Zambia Airways into its next phase of growth,” the statement reads.
“His appointment reflects the board’s commitment to strong, visionary leadership and its ambition to build a competitive, safe, customer-focused and market-driven airline connecting Zambia to regional and global opportunities,” it adds.
Zambia Airways Ltd was established as per a shareholder’s deal signed between the Government of Zambia through Industrial Development Corporation ltd (IDC) and Ethiopian Airlines Group (ET) in August 2018 where IDC owns 55% while ET owns 45% of the shares.
The airline commenced operations in December 2021, with its hub at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka. It currently provides scheduled services to multiple regional destinations across south and eastern Africa, along with four domestic destinations.
