Minister of Lands Chimwemwe Chipungu says Mombera University will play an important role in expanding access to higher education and strengthening Malawi’s human capital.
Chipungu made the remarks after attending a Cabinet Committee meeting on the Mombera University Project on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The meeting, chaired by Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana at his office, reviewed the latest developments surrounding the project.
It also considered reports from the project’s Steering Committee on the status of preparations for the establishment of the university.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Chipungu described Mombera University as an important national project.
He said the institution will contribute to expanding access to higher education, developing human capital and advancing Malawi’s broader development agenda.
The Cabinet Committee is expected to continue considering the next steps towards the implementation of the project.
