Iran Declares Readiness for War, Hopes US Voters Punish Trump at Polls

According to The Guardian News on 18 October 2026, Iran has declared that it is prepared for a possible war more than ever, while expressing hope that American voters will hold President Donald Trump accountable for his performance in the upcoming election.

Iran’s Deputy Parliament Speaker, Hamidreza Hajibabaei, made the remarks on Monday, stressing that the country remained committed to maintaining its defensive capabilities amid continuing tensions with the United States.

Hajibabaei said Tehran was strengthening its readiness to respond to potential threats, adding that Iran’s preparedness for a possible military confrontation had increased.

He also maintained that Iran’s position would remain unchanged regardless of the outcome of the US election, suggesting that the country’s policies would not be determined by the individual occupying the White House.

However, the Iranian lawmaker called on American voters to carefully consider Trump’s conduct and political decisions when deciding how to vote in the forthcoming election.

Hajibabaei expressed the hope that US citizens would punish the president through the electoral process over what he described as his “humiliating behavior.” He argued that Americans should not allow the president’s actions to become a reflection of their country’s reputation.

The comments highlight the continuing political disagreements between Tehran and Washington, which have faced longstanding disputes over security, regional influence and Iran’s nuclear programme.

Relations between the two countries have remained strained over disagreements concerning sanctions, military activities and broader regional security issues. Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasised the country’s determination to defend its sovereignty against potential external aggression.

Meanwhile, Hajibabaei’s remarks suggest that Tehran is seeking to communicate two messages simultaneously: that it is prepared to respond to possible military threats and that changes in American political leadership would not necessarily alter Iran’s fundamental position.

The Iranian government has consistently maintained that its defensive capabilities are intended to protect the country against external threats.

The latest statement underscores the continuing tensions between Iran and the United States as political developments in Washington remain a subject of international interest.
