Agonamanhene bans MP Mavis Nkansah-Boadu from holding events on his land

The Omanhene of Agona Traditional Area, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, has banned Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, Member of Parliament for Sekyere South, from holding social events within his traditional jurisdiction with immediate effect.

The ban, announced in a letter addressed to the MP, specifically affects a tournament scheduled for October 23, 2026, and covers Agona, Dipoa, Wiamoase, Bedomase, Afamanaso, Akrofonso and Ampanyinamoa.

The chief attributed his decision to what he described as disrespectful conduct by the MP, particularly her failure to acknowledge his authority as Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area.

In the letter, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II said he was surprised and offended by an invitation to a programme under the MP’s patronage, which addressed him as “The Chief, Agona Traditional Council”.

He argued that his enstoolment and subsequent traditional ceremonies had already established his authority, noting that he had sworn before Agona Amantuonson on June 4, 2026, and before the Asanteman Council at Manhyia on June 29, 2026.

He further cited his installation-related activities and traditional celebrations in July and August, which he said were attended by the Sekyere South Municipal Police Commander, the Ghana Education Service director and other dignitaries.

According to the chief, the Sekyere South Municipal Chief Executive, Evans Twumasi, also attended the programmes, either personally or through representatives.

He accused the MP of failing to show him the respect and reverence he believes are due to his position during her visits to Agona.

“I saw your invitation in question as attached, a huge surprise and an insult of the highest order,” he stated in the letter.

The chief subsequently ordered that the MP be prohibited from organising any social event within the affected communities and warned against attempts to defy the directive.

The letter did not indicate whether the MP had responded to the ban.

The circumstances surrounding the dispute, including the MP’s position on the chief’s claims and the potential implications for the scheduled tournament, remain unclear.
