The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has announced plans to endorse President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, citing its support for the party’s national leader and minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The proposed endorsement highlights the political alignment between the Bayelsa PDP leadership and Wike, who has openly declared support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa, the state chapter said its position followed Wike’s recent reaffirmation of support for Tinubu at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The statement, signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ikaebimo Mark, said the state chapter, under the leadership of its chairman, Hon. Alabh George Turnah, was preparing to adopt Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate in Bayelsa.
According to him, the proposed endorsement is intended to align the party’s political direction in the state with Wike’s position and mobilise members and supporters ahead of the general election.
Mark also highlighted Turnah’s role in coordinating the activities of the National Rainbow Coalition in the state, describing the group as part of efforts to mobilise political stakeholders in support of Tinubu’s candidacy.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united as consultations and preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
He also called on them to respect the leadership and decisions that emerge through the appropriate political processes.
The proposed endorsement, if formally adopted, would mark a significant political position by the Bayelsa PDP leadership ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
