AI summary
One of the most anticipated movies of the year is the Nathan Fielder/A24 documentary You Can See Everything, which unfortunately, didn’t get a South African release when it arrived in theatres on 16th October.
That will change in the upcoming month, as Ster-Kinekor has confirmed that the movie will arrive locally, albeit more than a month later. In replying to user on Twitter/X, the local cinema chain announced the release without any big fanfare or wider campaign.
“It’s happening! You Can See Everything lands on the BIG SKreen on 20 November! Get ready for a cinema experience you won’t want to miss!” Ster-Kinekor writes.
For those unsure why we’re so excited for this one, you need to be familiar with Fielder, the subject of the documentary Elizabeth Holmes, and the massive positive reception this film has received so far.
Fielder has a made a real name for himself over the years for his special brand of comedy and absurdism, most notably through projects like Nathan for You and The Rehearsal. We don’t want to spoil anything but the second season of The Rehearsal may have some of the most ridiculous moments ever filmed for TV.
Holmes, on the other hand, is the woman at the centre of the scandal around the company Theranos which was valued at billions of Dollars based off of lies about bloodwork technology that never existed.
As you can tell from these descriptions, these two people meeting could make for some insane filmmaking, which is exactly the premise of the movie. This has been elevated by trailers which focus on the strangeness of the two leads.
“Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss,” reads the official synopsis of the movie.
Lastly, getting to those reviews on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 97 percent on the Tomatometer (the ratings system for critics) and 96 percent on the Popcornmeter (the ratings system for the public).
You Can See Everything isn’t listed on the Ster-Kinekor website just yet, and we’re not sure if other chains like Nu Metro will screen the movie. Those niggles aside, we’re going to be there on day one to see this movie locally.
