Anne Hathaway reveals her theory about Verity’s ending

Warning: Verity spoilers ahead! If you walked out of Verity still trying to figure out what the heck was true, you’re definitely not alone. And now Anne Hathaway has weighed in on one of the biggest debates surrounding the psychological thriller: Team Letter or Team Manuscript? Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, follows struggling writer Lowen, who is hired to complete a book series by successful author Verity after she is left seriously injured following an accident. While staying at Verity’s home, Lowen discovers a secret manuscript containing some seriously disturbing revelations. The film stars Hathaway alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. But the story leaves audiences with one massive question: Was Verity telling the truth in the manuscript, or should we believe the letter?

Hathaway has made her position very clear. She’s Team Letter. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway explained that while plenty of people think the letter was simply Verity attempting to cover for herself, she sees things differently. Her biggest clue? The manuscript itself. Hathaway points to Lowen’s reaction to Verity’s writing and questions whether someone as calculating and villainous as the manuscript suggests Verity is would really write such an underwhelming account of herself. Honestly... she has a point. The ambiguity is a huge part of what has kept Verity fans debating the story, with the adaptation deliberately preserving the uncertainty around Verity and the controversial ending. Hathaway has had a massive 2026 outside of Verity, too. In June, the 43-year-old announced that she and husband Adam Shulman are expecting their third child. The couple are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. While promoting Verity, Hathaway has spoken about balancing pregnancy with an incredibly busy year, describing the experience as one that has helped expand her patience and grace for both herself and others. And apparently pregnancy even changed her Verity promo plans. Hathaway recently revealed her doctor advised her not to appear on Hot Ones while pregnant because of concerns the spicy challenge could potentially trigger early labour.
