Dates set for Cape Town Pride Festival 2027

Say it loud and proud – the dates for the 2027 edition of Cape Town Pride have been announced!

Following a year which has seen the Mother City’s LGBTQIA+ community experience its fair share of ups and downs (ahem, Oscar Bougardt), next year’s edition of Pride promises to be the most colourful event on Capetonians’ cultural calendars.

Here’s everything you need to know about Cape Town Pride 2027:

CAPE TOWN PRIDE’S FEBRUARY TAKEOVER

Next years’s Cape Town Pride Festival will practically be a month-long party. This is because it will run from 5 February to 28 February 2027.

The accompanying parade and Mardi Gras will take place on Saturday, 27 February 2027.

The parade will embark on a familiar route, beginning in Alfred Street, De Waterkant. Marchers will proceed down Somerset Road and Main Road before arriving at Green Point Track. The latter will serve as the venue of the Mardi Gras.

LOUD IN EVERY COLOUR

Like most Pride events worldwide, Cape Town Pride is a joyous occasion. Here, everyone that belongs on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum – and their allies – can celebrate their identities in a safe, fun space.

As such, next year’s theme is extremely apt: “Loud in Every Colour.”

“This theme deliberately names the whole spectrum, not just the rainbow flag but the trans, bi, intersex and ace flags, too, so nobody in the community thinks it is not about them,” says Cape Town Pride’s Brand Ambassador, Nkosinathi Sangweni.

Tommy Patterson, CEO of Cape Town Pride, adds, “We should not be intimidated by attacks on our rights coming from some quarters. We are going to be LOUD and proud in 2027 in the lead-up to WorldPride in 2028. We are only going to get louder!”

WILL YOU BE ATTENDING CAPE TOWN PRIDE NEXT YEAR?

There are only four months to go until the festivities. So, now is the perfect opportunity to start planning ahead for your trip to the Mother City. Think of attire, transport details, attire, accommodation, attire, places to meet up and hang out with out-and-proud South Africans … and did we mention the attire?

On a serious note, despite the strides Mzansi has made in recognising and uplifting the Rainbow Nation’s LGBTQIA+ community, it’s scary knowing that some folks out there are bent on stoking the fires of prejudice towards them. It’s with hope that all South Africans – from leaders to other communities – can rise together and douse these fires during Pride season and beyond.
