Senator John Owan Enoh Confirms Ikom-Agbokim Road Rehabilitation To Resume After Rains
AI summary
Former Senator representing Cross Central senatorial district, John Owan Enoh, has confirmed that rehabilitation of Ikom-Etomi-Agbokim Waterfalls Road will resume once the rain subsides, following the release of funding for the emergency rehabilitation of the road that can boost economic activities in both Etung and Ikom local government areas in Cross River State.
He made this known in a statement placed on his verified Facebook page sighted by LEADERSHIP on Thursday.
Enoh a current Minister of State for Industry said the breakthrough followed a working engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, which produced an agreed funding structure for the project.
The agreement was consummated at a meeting attended by the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), his Director of Finance and Accounts, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Ministry of Finance, the Director of Cash Management of the Ministry, and Senator Enoh.
“Under the agreement, releases would be made from September through December to enable the NDDC to fund the project so the contractor can return to site at the onset of the dry season” he maintained.
Enoh said he had been committed to tracking the releases and the contractor’s return to site “so that this decision is converted into visible work on ground for the benefit of our beloved people.”
“I am glad to report again, that Government has kept faith with that agreement. Funding for the first month of September has been released. NDDC has also fulfilled its part by making a release to the contractor,” Enoh maintained.
He added that the contractor had confirmed receipt of some funding and expressed gratitude for the effort and progress, assuring that the only remaining constraint to mobilising back to site is the weather. “Once the rains subside, work will resume,” he assured.
He restated his commitment to continuous follow-up on subsequent releases and the actual return to site, so that traders, farmers and communities who depend on the corridor “can measure the outcome in improved access rather than in announcements.”
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance for honouring the commitment, and the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, and his team “for continuing to restore confidence to the reputation of the NDDC.”
