Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said that money obtained through illegally collected deposits had been used for supermarkets, newspapers, the tourism industry, artists, and large-scale advertising campaigns.

Speaking at a media briefing held today, he said that the Central Bank has already begun investigations into the matter. He added that further action would be determined through the courts.
