Miley Cyrus is preparing to enter a new chapter of her career under a simpler name, dropping “Cyrus” professionally ahead of the release of her upcoming 10th studio album, Bass Persuades.
The move sparked speculation about possible tensions between the singer and her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus. However, Billy Ray has made it clear that he supports his daughter’s decision.
Writing on X, he revealed that Miley had spoken to him about the change beforehand and said he was comfortable with her using only her first name.
Billy Ray recalled that he had always referred to his daughter simply as “Miley” and compared her decision with stars such as Dolly Parton, Cher, Elvis and Prince, who became widely recognised by single names.
“Family means more than ever now,” he wrote, describing the change as a natural progression for an “iconic superstar legend”.
He also expressed excitement about Miley’s forthcoming album, adding that he believes her legend will continue.
The decision to use her first name alone marks another evolution for the Grammy-winning singer as she prepares to release her latest project.
