Hill-Lewis urges Cape Town voters to protect DA majority at Belhar rally
Geordin Hill-Lewis used the DA’s Western Cape rally in Belhar to argue for retaining its Cape Town majority ahead of local elections.
Geordin Hill-Lewis has urged voters to keep the Democratic Alliance’s outright majority in Cape Town, warning at the party’s Western Cape rally that coalition government would bring instability.
The DA leader and Cape Town mayor addressed supporters at Erica Park in Belhar on Saturday, 10 October.
According to Eyewitness News, Hill-Lewis told the gathering that rival parties were seeking to reduce the DA’s support below 50% in Cape Town. He presented maintaining a majority as central to the party’s campaign ahead of the local government elections.
Hill-Lewis drew on Cape Town’s earlier experience of coalition government to support his argument, EWN reported.
He also thanked volunteers canvassing across the Western Cape and pledged that the party would continue improving the towns and cities it governs.
The DA promoted the gathering as its final Western Cape rally under its Working for All campaign. Its official broadcast presented Hill-Lewis’s address as an outline of the party’s plans to protect what it regards as progress in the province.
