JLP moves to expel councillor after announced defection to PNP

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says it notes the announcement by Councillor for the May Pen North Division, Tanya-Lee Williams, that she will rescind her membership in the party and join the People's National Party (PNP).

In a statement on Thursday, the JLP said that, as the party secretariat has not received a formal resignation letter from Williams, processes to facilitate her expulsion have been activated.

Williams reportedly attempted to cross the floor during Thursday's sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation but used an incorrect procedure under the standing orders.

The move was declared inadmissible, which resulted in the adjournment of the meeting.
