DODOMA: TANZANIA and Egypt have expressed their commitment to strengthening their longstanding friendship and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, with President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan stressing the need to further broaden bilateral ties for the benefit of the two countries’ peoples.
President Samia made the remarks yesterday when she received the outgoing Egyptian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Sherif Ismail, who paid her a farewell courtesy call upon completing his four-year tour of duty in the country.
During the meeting, President Samia expressed appreciation to Ambassador Ismail for his contribution to strengthening the longstanding and friendly relations between Tanzania and Egypt during his tenure. She said bilateral cooperation has continued to make progress in several key areas, including trade and investment, education, scholarships, health, transport and logistics, agriculture, energy and tourism.
The President emphasised the importance of further expanding trade and investment opportunities, noting that stronger economic ties would create greater opportunities for citizens and businesses in both countries. President Samia and Ambassador Ismail also discussed the importance of strengthening transport and logistics connectivity between the two countries.
The enhanced connectivity, they noted, could play a significant role in facilitating trade between Tanzania, Egypt and other markets across the African continent. On education, President Samia expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support through scholarships, training and capacity-building programmes for Tanzanians.

She also highlighted the importance of sustaining cooperation in the health sector, particularly in medical training, provision of equipment and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The two countries have maintained historical and friendly relations, with cooperation extending across political, economic, social and development areas.
Ambassador Ismail expressed gratitude to President Samia, the government and people of Tanzania for the cooperation, support and hospitality extended to him throughout his four-year tenure. He described his diplomatic tour of duty in Tanzania as a valuable and memorable period of service, while reaffirming the enduring friendship between Tanzania and Egypt.
Ambassador Ismail’s tenure comes to an end after four years during which the two countries continued to strengthen cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest. President Samia wished Ambassador Ismail success in his future endeavours, expressing confidence that the strong relations between Tanzania and Egypt would continue to grow.
The farewell meeting underscored the shared determination of Tanzania and Egypt to deepen their historic friendship, strengthen bilateral cooperation and identify new areas of partnership for the mutual benefit of the two nations.
The two sides are expected to continue building on existing areas of cooperation while exploring additional opportunities to strengthen economic and people-to-people relations.
