Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old man in Schoeman Street, Cafda. No arrests have been made.

The murder of an alleged “prominent gang” figure in Retreat has raised fears of retaliatory violence in surrounding communities after he was gunned down in the middle of the street.
The 39-year-old man, alleged to be a “prominent gang” figure in the Flakka Kids gang, was shot several times in Schoeman Steet, Cafda on Saturday.
Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots before the man's body was found lying in the street.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face and neck and was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The Flakka Kids is a Cape Town street gang fighting for territory and control predominantly in the Steenberg and Lavender Hill areas against other gangs.
Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that Steenberg SAPS is investigating the shooting and that the alleged perpetrators have not yet been arrested.
“Upon arrival they found a lifeless body of a 39-year-old male lying on the street with multiple gunshots to the face and neck. He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel," Gwala said.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrest has been effected at this stage.”
Residents and the broader public have been warned to be careful when walking or driving in the area.
Steenberg Community Policing Forum chairperson, Nicola Small said information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained limited by confirmed the man's alleged gang links.
Small said details around the shooting remained sketchy, but confirmed the victim’s alleged gang ties.
“Unfortunately I don't have much information other than who the victim was.
“I can confirm that he was a 'prominent figure' in a gang. That's all I have at the moment.”
