A 24-year-old Nyau dancer has been sentenced to seven years in prison for assaulting a student from the Natural Resources College (NRC), a constituent college of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
The dancer, whose real name is Owen Idi, was convicted after assaulting Julius Phiri, a Textile and Fashion Design student at NRC, leaving him with injuries that required hospital treatment.
Presiding over the case, His Worship Kumbanie found Idi guilty of causing bodily harm and sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment.
Idi, who is now commonly known as the Nyau dancer who assaulted an NRC student, comes from Maziro Village under Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe.
The court imposed the sentence after finding him guilty of the offence.
