Kindiki’s Name Emerges in Plan to Unite Uhuru Kenyatta and Gachagua

Efforts to bring together former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election are reportedly gaining momentum, with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s name now being mentioned in the discussions.

According to Taifa Leo’s Sunday, November 1, 2026 edition, the push is aimed at uniting the vast Mt Kenya region politically. The two leaders are said to be under pressure to put their differences aside and speak with one voice as the country moves closer to the next General Election.

The report says the initiatives to reconcile the former Head of State and the former Deputy President are picking up speed.

What has raised eyebrows is that Kindiki’s name is being mentioned as part of the arrangement, which suggests the talks go beyond a simple handshake and could involve how the region positions itself in the 2027 contest.

Mt Kenya has long been seen as one of the country’s biggest vote-rich regions, and whoever commands it holds considerable bargaining power in national politics.

In recent years the region’s political direction has been shaped by the rivalry between Uhuru and Gachagua, a split that many leaders from the area say has weakened its voice.

Those pushing for unity argue that a divided Mt Kenya risks being sidelined when it comes to negotiating for positions and development.

Kindiki being named in the plan adds another layer to the conversation. As Deputy President and one of the region’s most senior leaders in government, any role he plays in the talks is likely to be closely watched by both allies and critics.

It remains unclear how the leaders themselves will respond to the reports, and no official statement from either side was highlighted on the front page.

The development comes as political parties and alliances are already repositioning themselves for 2027. Backroom meetings, consultations and public rallies are becoming more frequent, and Mt Kenya remains a key battleground for those with eyes on the top seat.

Elsewhere in the same edition, the paper reports that ODM Deputy Party Leader and Kisii Governor Simba Arati addressed supporters at Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi on October 31 during the climax of the “Mwezi wa Baba” activities.

The month-long programme was set aside to mark one year since the death of former ODM leader and Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga.

For now, all eyes will be on whether the reported efforts will translate into a face-to-face meeting between Uhuru and Gachagua, and what it would mean for the political map of Mt Kenya.
