The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to renew their faith in the Nigerian project and remain committed to building a stronger, more prosperous and secure nation.
In his message, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau called on Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey and uphold the ideals of unity, peace and development.
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Independence Day.
“Fellow Nigerians, I warmly felicitate with you on the occasion of our 66th Independence Anniversary.
“As we celebrate this important milestone in the life of our beloved country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we must remember the enormous sacrifices made by our founding fathers and all those who contributed to the struggle for Nigeria’s independence and the building of our nation.
“Their contributions remind us of the ideals that must continue to guide us as a people: national unity, peace, justice, tolerance and a shared commitment to the progress and prosperity of Nigeria.
“After 66 years of independence, our country has made significant progress, even as we continue to confront challenges. With unity of purpose, resilience and faith in our collective capacity, Nigeria will overcome its present difficulties and emerge stronger,” he said.
